Named and Shamed…

named and shamedIt’s been a difficult ten days, coming to terms with these sporadic black episodes encroaching on my life.

Not only that, there are also other complicated things going on (same for all of us?).

Luckily, a few days ago, the clouds disappeared and Technicolor seeped back into my life once more. What could possibly go wrong?

This evening I had a tweet, directed at me. It mentioned me by my Twitter handle and read, ‘Know who your friends are….were  #hurt #hatefully #movingon’. I won’t name the person (I’m not that low), but they have almost a thousand followers. So my ‘name’ and ‘crime’ has now been transmitted to them too. Nice.

Believe me, there are two sides to every story and most certainly in this one. I only write about this as it was the last thing I needed today. What does, ‘Know who your friends are’ mean? Vaguely threatening/chastising.

There’s ways and means of raising grievances. A couple of weeks ago I vented about a friend who let me down, but I ranted without mentioning the person’s name. Instead, we exchanged private messages. The problem still isn’t resolved and probably never will be, but at least we were fairly dignified.

‘An Inspector Calls’ was a book I read in school and have never forgotten. If you haven’t read it, it essentially sums up that just a ‘tiny’ thing amongst many others can drive someone to the brink. The straw that breaks the camel’s back. I’m not saying that’s the same here, but the kernel remains the same.

I didn’t need to have this tonight. Maybe that’s what they wanted. If so, and I know they follow my blog, hey, well done.

On a lighter note, as, after all, my blog is about showing the more humorous side to MS, here are today’s stats:

  • Tripped over in work – 6 times
  • Number of times told off by boss – over 20
  • Body-swerves around bannister – 3
  • Slips in shower – 2
  • Slices of toast and Nutella The Teenager has eaten – 4
  • Substitutions in Ocado order – none! Yay!

I am off to volunteer at a Newly-Diagnosed Day tomorrow. I was that person two years ago, so hopefully I can impart some wisdom….

Wow–what is this, high school bullying? How crummy.

Good luck at the volunteering stint tomorrow, and good for you!

Yup! A cheap shot. People have every right to vent about how they feel about things (I do a lot!) but I think to direct the tweet specifically at me was pretty nasty.
But today is another day! Looking forward to the newly diagnosed day and hoping I can meet some people and reassure them about MS.

Tripped over 6 times. See what happens when you put a proper effort into the job at hand. Keep up the good work.

thanks for setting the challenge – it took longer than i’d expected but i’ve found the demon tweeter – what do i win?

glad the ocado orders are still bringing joy – keep on trucking.

Blimey! No idea how you managed that, am impressed!
You win a stumbling star. Don’t tell anyone as they’ll all want one 🙂
Ocado is sublime. How did I live without it??

When someone who behaves like that announces they no longer want to be friends, (that’s what the tweet sounds like to me) it is time to briefly celebrate, then forget they existed.

On the Tesco website you can say ‘no substitutions’, but they still do it – we have allergies and usually can’t have what they suggest – one of those aggravations along with out of date stuff. One time they delivered breakfast muffins at 4pm that were out of date that day! Not being able to do the weekly shop myself is one of the major ms irritations for me!

Stumbling Stars eh?……. Are they made of chocolate?

      Hiya!
It’s a bit more complicated than that unfortunately. We drifted apart and I was in a pretty bad place. Some friendships just end. Mind you, this was six months ago, so why this is all happening now is a bit of a mystery.
I’ve also had to put up with a lot of aggressive texts today which are too boring to go into, but the upshot of it is, this person has three friends with MS and they don’t ‘bang’ on about it, so why don’t I just get myself out of my MS bubble. Which is hysterical really. I write a blog about MS. They know nothing about my life and to be honest, I’m proud I’m now working in a job I enjoy, finished my degree, signed up for an MA, and most importantly, am bringing up The Teenager on my own. ALL of which are bound up with MS – of course they are!!
I’m rambling, but I lost my previous job – due to MS. I almost chucked in my degree – due to MS. I signed up for an MA thanks to this blog – due to MS. The Teenager and I have had to create a new life – due to MS. Of course MS is going to be a big part of my life but I write this blog precisely to ‘offload’ and work out what’s going on in my mind. I don’t chat about MS on a daily basis. I could go on, but you get the gist, lol.
Anyway, Stumbling Stars has a wicked ring to it, and they would definitely need to be made of chocolate!

Gosh, people never cease to amaze me…for all those that are great and supportive, there’s another one who lets you down! Not what you needed this week, but you have hopefully come out the other side feeling stronger. Wish you lived in London, I’d bring over a bottle of wine and some chocolates and we could put the world to rights!! xx

Me neither. As I replied by text to this person today, I cut contact with a lot of people last year. I kind of went into hibernation. Not so much about MS, but other, more personal things in my life. My true friends realised something wasn’t right and dragged me out the house.
You know what, wine and chocolates sounds perfect!! After the week I’ve had, lol. And not all about MS!!

They sound narrow minded and insensitive! When people are spiteful it says more about them than the person they are attacking.
You don’t come across as being in any kind of ‘bubble’, what ever that means. Reading your blog and how you have signed up for the MA has inspired and encouraged me to think about my life and what to do next.
Sorry you have this crap going on, I am with Angela D, if I was closer I would be round too. xx

That’s so good to hear! I really do think sometimes that MS is an unfortunate but excellent way to change your life for the better. Kind of shakes it up in all levels.
In the last 24 hours, the person has texted me to apologise and we are currently working through things. I really admire him for that, so perhaps something good has come out of all this after all? Life’s too short. Way too short.
As for me, I am most certainly in my MS bubble today. This heat is a nightmare. I am melting…

p.s. it would be so good if you guys lived closer! Or I lived closer to you. we’d have an absolute ball!
